The Heart Behind the Curtain

Taking the Stage in Newton
Part of what makes Newton special are the people who pour their time, energy, and passion into the community. At the Newton Community Theatre, art comes to life. And it’s people who make it possible.
In fact, it’s more than entertainment or simply putting on shows; rather, it’s about people coming together – whether onstage, offstage, or in the audience – to share the innately human experience of storytelling.
Heart Behind the Curtain
Behind every production is a network of volunteers, performers, and leaders working together to make it all happen. At the center of that effort, however, is Sue. Ask anyone involved with the theatre, and you’ll hear that Sue’s impact both on and off stage is undoubtedly impossible to miss.
As the theatre’s administrator, she is often the first person people turn to, whether they need guidance, answers, or support. Moreover, she’s known for being generous, approachable, and deeply knowledgeable. Because of this, she plays a crucial role in uplifting an environment where people feel supported, encouraged, and excited to be involved.
In addition, her willingness to give her time and energy – both inside the theatre and throughout the community – has helped shape what Newton Community Theatre is today. As a result, the theatre has become a place where anyone can step in and find their role. Whether it’s someone auditioning for the first time or helping offstage, there’s a welcoming sense of openness that makes it easy to get involved and feel like you belong.
Built on Passion and Community
Ultimately, the success of the theatre isn’t about talent; rather, it’s about making art together. People like Sue, along with countless volunteers, continue to invest in something bigger than themselves, creating experiences that bring the community together.
That, in turn, is what makes Newton special. It’s a place where people show up for each other, support one another, and build something meaningful together. And for those looking to create, contribute, or simply get involved with the community, the Newton Community Theatre is a place where your role – whether on stage, behind the scenes, or out in the audience – truly matters.
